My baby came home from the hospital with a pacifier and I was glad. It helps sooth crying and colicky babies so I didn't grapple with the question of should I or should I not give my child a pacifier. Some love them, some do not. My oldest gave his up about the time he started walking, my second kept hers until she was about 2. My youngest wanted no part of a pacifier so I can honestly say it just depends on your child. If it helps your child and they want one, there's no harm in them having one. But don't force it on a child who shows no interest in having one. I would encourage parents to limit pacifier use so that the child's language can develop normally.
